“Her achievements go beyond the traditional parameters of scientific research to define our perception of what it means to be human. Her discoveries have profoundly altered the world’s view of animal intelligence and enriched our understanding of humanity in a way that is both humbling and exalting,” Heather said.

Now almost 61 years since Jane started her research on chimpanzees in Gombe National Park in Western Tanzania, several scientific activities on primates have taken place in Africa and the rest of the world in honor of her noble research work.

Her efforts became a lifelong passion, leading to broader activism related to concerns over deforestation, the bush meat trade, trapping of live animals, and habitat destruction.

Celebrating 60 years of a monumental milestone for Jane Goodall’s chimpanzee research in Africa last year, the Tanzania government had dedicated its wildlife conservation efforts to ensure the survival of chimpanzees, the most human biologically close relatives.

As a result of her original studies, researchers in many other institutions continue to carry out path-breaking analyses related to chimpanzee behavior and are making new discoveries in this field.

Today, the Gombe research provides extensive insights into humans’ closest relatives’ emotions, behaviors, and social structures. Gombe National Park is one of the wildlife parks in Africa and is unique with its chimpanzee communities and a worth-visiting primate park.
