TEHRAN, Iran (eTN) – A French tourist was fatally shot at a bus terminal in a central Iranian city by a gunman suspected of armed robbery, state media said Monday.
The official IRNA news agency reported the French national was killed at the terminal in the northern section of Isfahan, a city 410 kilometers (255 miles) south of the capital, Tehran.
«After the death of a French tourist in an intercity bus terminal, authorities are applying all their efforts to arrest the murderer,» the agency quoted Majid Naderolasli, deputy governor general of Isfahan province, as saying.
The report did not provide the gender or the age of the French national and local authorities could not be reached for details.
But IRNA said the suspect in the shooting, who had had his accomplices detained earlier this year, resorted to random blind attacks on people after the arrests. It also said the suspect had recently attacked a local shopkeeper.
Meanwhile, state radio reported that the suspect had called police by telephone and warned them several times in recent days about his intentions, including a claim that he had killed a police officer this week. It added that seven of the suspect’s accomplices are in custody on armed robbery charges.
The report also carried a description of the suspect, provided by the police, which urged citizens to come forward if they have any information on the suspect.
